Balloon Safari
FAQ
Itinerary
Our guide will pick you up from your camp or lodge early in the morning (between 4 AM and 5 AM) to arrive at the launch area by approximately 6 AM. This allows you to enjoy some delicious Tanzanian coffee with homemade cookies while having access to clean restrooms and free Wi-Fi. During this time, the pilot will go over safety measures, launch and landing procedures, and what you can expect throughout the experience.
We aim to take off around 6:30 AM, weather permitting. You’ll board the basket while it’s lying on its side, and it will rise upright just before takeoff.
As soon as you lift off the ground, you’ll likely be treated to a stunning African sunrise, depending on the weather conditions.
During your flight, enjoy uninterrupted views from above of the vast Serengeti plains, where you’ll see why they are often referred to as the “endless plains.” Your pilot will be on the lookout for wildlife, lowering the balloon for better views when possible. The altitude may also be adjusted to enhance speed and direction, as well as to showcase breathtaking vistas. The flight typically lasts about one hour, with a possible variation of +/- 15 minutes based on weather conditions.
Landing will depend on the landscape and wind conditions, and while the basket may experience a few bumps before coming to a stop or even tip over slightly, most landings are smooth and gentle, just like the flight itself.
Once you disembark, you will partake in a traditional balloon celebration, where you’ll learn about the history behind this delightful ritual.
Afterward, you will be driven to our designated area for further arrangements.

How long is a balloon safari?
Your hot air balloon ride lasts about one hour, but your experience lasts a lifetime and very much worth its high price.
What should I wear? What should I bring?
It can be cool in the early morning, but often warm later, therefore a jacket or sweater that can be removed later is a good idea. A hat is recommended (particularly for the ‘follically challenged) as radiant heat from the burners can be uncomfortable. We suggest long trousers, long sleeves, preferably in natural fibres and stout shoes. Don’t forget your camera and binoculars. You can bring a camera bag or small backpack with you in the balloon.
I’m scared of heights. Can I balloon?
A number of our guests talked about a fear of heights before the flight but all of them have said they are so pleased that they took the flight and that their worries were unfounded. Do take a look at our Testimonials or TripAdvisor for firsthand accounts.
Many of our guests say that the feeling of floating in a balloon is so different to that of standing on the edge of a tall building that there is no comparison.
What happens if the weather is poor?
Ballooning is subject to suitable weather. If your flight is cancelled because of poor weather, you will be re-booked on a later flight If possible, otherwise your money will be refunded.
Is it safe?
All of our Pilots are highly experienced and hold international commercial Hot Air Balloon licenses.
All of our Balloons and equipment are purchased from the world’s most reputable Balloon Manufacturers.
