Mikumi national park
Mikumi National Park is a hidden gem in Tanzania, conveniently situated a short drive away from the bustling city of Dar-es-Salaam. As the fourth-largest national park in the country, Mikumi offers a wildlife-rich haven in a landscape framed by the picturesque Uluguru Mountains and the Lumango range. This park provides an easily accessible option for a quick weekend getaway or short-haul safari itineraries. With its open savannahs and an abundance of wildlife, especially along the scenic Mkata Floodplain, Mikumi is often referred to as the “smaller Serengeti of the South.” The wildlife here is well-acclimatized to human presence, making it a fantastic destination for game viewing, wildlife photography, and a taste of the Tanzanian wilderness.
Mikumi National Park shares its southern border with the expansive Selous Game Reserve, one of the world’s largest game reserves, enhancing its significance in the region’s conservation efforts. Surrounding the park are the breathtaking Udzungwa and Uluguru Mountains, providing a unique landscape rich in ecological diversity. Additionally, the Maundwa Mountain within the park connects the east and west ranges, linking the Uluguru Mountains in the northeast with the Uvidunda and Udzungwa mountains to the west. This interconnectedness creates a thriving ecosystem with an array of wildlife and picturesque scenery, making Mikumi a hidden treasure for both nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers.
