Nyerere National Park
One of the most world-renowned natural landscapes, Serengeti National Park, is situated at the heart of the larger Serengeti ecosystem that is proximate to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, another renowned World Heritage site, thus adjoining to form an entire eco-system with the Maswa Game Reserve in the south, Grumeti and Ikorongo Game Reserves in the east, with the transnational Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya to the north, and Loliondo Game Controlled Area in the west.
This World Heritage site harbours the legendary Great Migration of wildebeests, zebras, and Thomson’s gazelles creating the best natural show in the world as the largest ungulate migration on earth and also the greatest concentration of plains game on Africa that is unequalled in natural beauty and ecological value.
Nyerere National Park, formerly known as Selous Game Reserve, is one of Tanzania’s hidden gems, offering pristine wilderness and diverse wildlife. Named after Dr. Bernhard Grzimek’s son, Michael Grzimek, who played a significant role in the park’s conservation, Nyerere National Park is the largest protected area in Africa and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This vast expanse of untamed wilderness is home to an abundance of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, and hippos, as well as diverse bird species. Visitors can enjoy thrilling game drives, boat safaris along the Rufiji River, and walking safaris in this remarkable natural paradise.
