Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is located between the plains of the Maasai Steppe to the south-east, and the lakes of the Great Rift Valley to the north and west. The Park is famous for its perennial Tarangire River that serves as the lifeblood for the park and is also the primary source of fresh water for wild animals in the Tarangire Ecosystem during the annual dry season. feeding into the south with a series of vast ‘swamps’ which dry into lush plains during the dry season. The landscape is defined by a mix of granitic ridges, river valley, and swamps with mixed Acacia woodlands and baobab vegetation which collectively is generally much denser including densely packed elephant grass, large ribbons of riverine systems. There are large numbers of elephant herds congregate including substantial populations wildebeest, zebra, impala, giraffe, eland and buffalo. Tarangire is also a major area for bird enthusiasts with over 500 bird species sand is also a major lion conservation ground.
